Sewing between worlds
photographic print on fabric, hand stitching
150 x 150 cm
During an artist residency at Uzosanso Villa, I encountered a torii gate beside Mt. Uzosan, a mountain long regarded as sacred. Traditionally, a torii marks the boundary between the everyday and the sacred. Using archival photographs of local people who worked at the shrine and in the mountains, I stitched together photographs from either side of the gate.
