Suturing distances (series)
photographic print on fabric, hand stitching
150 x 150 cm
my cousin and me
my mother and father
my grandmother and me
my partner and me
Across the works, the stitching of photographs depicting people close to me destabilizes the distinction between front and back, image and trace. Each side carries the trace of the other, so that what appears on one surface is always shaped by what cannot be seen on the reverse. Through the act of stitching, closeness and distance emerge within the same photographic plane. Rather than resolving into a fixed relation, the works sustain a condition in which boundaries remain unsettled, and meaning emerges through shifting correspondences between surfaces.
